NORLUG Constitution
Article I. Name and Purpose
Section 1. This organization shall be called, the Northfield Linux Users Group, hereinafter referred to as the NORLUG. This organization is a non-profit group that promotes and uses the Linux operating system, open-source, and free sorftware.

Section 2. NORLUG shall hold formal meetings once a month.

Section 3. NORLUG shall hold workshops to introduce Advanced or beginners topics which are of an interest or perceived need for the group and community.

Article II. Membership
Section 1. Upon Completion of the NORLUG membership form and attendance of one formal meeting the person becomes a non-voting member of the organization.

Section 2. A person who has not attended a formal meeting and has not filled out the membership form will not be allowed to vote or obtain other privileges as stated in the Bylaws.

Section 3. Any organization member who meets the attendance requirements specified in the Bylaws shall be deemed a voting member.

Section 4. Membership shall include the right to an account on all NORLUG servers. Only NORLUG members may have access to NORLUG servers.

Section 5. Only voting members may vote at organization meetings or hold office.

Article III. Officers
Section 1. The elected officers of NORLUG shall be the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. If it is deemed appropriate at the time, the Treasurer and Secretary officies may be held by the same person. They shall be elected as specified in the Bylaws.

Section 2. The term for officers elected during the monthly meeting in May shall be one year or otherwise stated in the Bylaws.

Section 3. The President shall be responsible for the overall operation of the organization and be its official representative to the community.

Section 4. The Vice-President shall be responsible in the absence of the President, and shall handle the schedule for workshops.

Section 5. The Treasurer shall be directly accountable for the finances of the organization.

Section 6. The Secretary shall handle all organizational correspondence and be responsible for minutes at all NORLUG and Executive Committee meetings.

Section 7. No person may hold two or more elected offices concurrently, with the exception of the Treasurer/Secretary position. A person may hold an appointed position concurrently with any other position, including another appointed position.

Section 8. Upon petition by at least twenty percent of the voting members of the NORLUG organization a formal meeting of the NORLUG organization may be called to discuss the removal of an elected officer. The officer may be removed only by a three-fourths vote of the total voting members of the NORLUG organization.

Section 9. NORLUG Officers must use digtal signatures in any e-mail correspondence (GPG / PGP, etc.).

Article IV. Meetings and Workshops
Section 1. The organization shall regularly hold meetings to review the organization's status and conduct business.

Section 2. There shall be at least one regularly scheduled meeting a month, with the exception of special circumstances that may occur that warrant the organization to not hold a monthly meeting. Additional meetings may be called by petition of any five voting members.

Section 3. NORLUG meetings shall be open to all members except as otherwise noted in the Constitution or Bylaws.

Section 4. A quorum of the NORLUG organization shall consist of one-third of the voting membership, necessary to perform any business of the organization. At NORLUG meetings, no business other than reports and discussions shall be carried on unless a quorum is present.

Section 5. All organizational meetings shall be chaired by the highest ranking elected officer present.

Section 6. Decisions of any club meeting shall be binding upon the NORLUG members, be they voting, non-voting, or honorary members, and the club officers.

Section 7. The organization shall hold monthly workshops year-round.

Section 8. In addition to monthly workshops, NORLUG shall hold workshops to discuss interesting topics at the discretion of the Vice-President.

Article VI. Amendment
Section 1. The Constitution may be amended by a majority of the votes cast by the voting members present at an organization meeting.

Section 2. A proposed amendment to the Constitution must be submitted in writing to the Secretary. The Secretary shall distribute copies of the proposed amendment to the organization at least four weeks before the club meeting at which the vote on the amendment will be held.

Article VII. Ratification
Section 1. This Constitution shall be ratified when approved by a two-thirds vote of the organization's total voting members. A provision for absentee ballots shall be made. At least four weeks' notice shall be given to the organization, that a meeting will be held at which the ratification shall be voted on.
